Safe Skin Treatments for Pregnant Women

Anyone who’s been pregnant at least once has experienced a roller coaster ride of changes in their body and there are times that having some “me time” can lessen your stresses about pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.

But what are the safe skin treatments for pregnant women, or for those who are breastfeeding their babies? Here are the top 3 safest treatments:

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal is probably the safest in this list, given that the light and heat coming from the machine only penetrates the surface of the skin. This then poses no threat to both the mother and her baby.

If you have started a laser hair removal treatment with us before getting pregnant, you can still continue with your sessions. You can simply advise the Therapist attending to you. If you have any doubts, it’s best to talk with your GP.

Why do Laser Hair Removal during pregnancy? As your baby bump gets bigger, you might have a harder time getting rid of hair on your legs or other parts of your body. And with hormonal changes that can tucker you out, you might feel too exhausted to work on your body.

At Laser Clinics, you’ll be in the care of trained Therapists who will look after your skin while you lie down and relax. You and your baby are safe with us.

Facials

While facials are generally safe for pregnant women, there are some treatments that are safer than others. Deep cleansing facials that include exfoliation and moisturising are absolutely safe, as well as hydrating facials that contain safe ingredients like collagen and water.

Why do facials during pregnancy? The skin is more sensitive during pregnancy so you will notice certain changes that were never present pre-baby bump. You could have much drier or oilier skin as you adjust to your new life.

We recommend institut Expert Revitalise Hyaluronic Jelly Mask. This rejuvenating mask (which doubles as a overnight sleep mask) boasts our Hydra-Peptide Complex which helps to firm and rehydrate while boosting skin elasticity and radiance – and fast. Peptides are also known for effectively targeting visible fine lines and wrinkles. You may talk with our Therapists to see which one best suits your skin and to double-check if the ingredients are safe for both baby and you.

Skin Needling

Skin Needling is considered safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women as long as the Therapist is using shallow needles (less than 0.5mm). We strongly recommend that you consult with your GP first, and then with us regarding any skin conditions brought by pregnancy, before agreeing to purchase this treatment.

While we do use small needles, these can still produce tiny injuries and trigger a healing response from your body. As with any bodily function, you will need nutrients to heal yourself - nutrients that your baby might also need to grow inside you.

It would be best to try skin needling after the breastfeeding period - think of it as a treat for yourself - to help you deal with possible melasma (blue-grey patches on your skin) and hyperpigmentation. These are common skin concerns during pregnancy.
